On October 28, Leslie Jimenez will be honored as this year’s USTA Colorado’s Charlie and Ira Brown Award recipient at the Colorado Tennis Hall of Fame Gala and Annual Awards Celebration in Denver. The award was established in 1987 and honors junior sportsmanship. It is presented to a participant of a Colorado Parks & Recreation program who demonstrates sportsmanship, leadership and achievement on and off the court. It is named after Charlie & Ira Brown, brothers who helped foster the growth of tennis in Denver parks. As players, they epitomized good sportsmanship and leadership.
Leslie began her tennis adventure as a 5th grader in the inaugural session of STA's SERVES program and then went on to our Pathways program. As a freshman, she played number 3 doubles on the varsity team at Steamboat Springs High School. Coach Bill Conway says of Leslie, “You don’t have to be loud to be a good leader. What she does is doesn’t say much and just puts her head down and works super hard.”
We are so happy to have her volunteer with us in our current SERVES session. She is truly a mentor to youth coming up in the program.
CONGRATULATIONS, LESLIE!
